Disabilities Support Services
The University of Connecticut School of Social Work, Disability Support Services is committed to creating an accessible environment where individuals are viewed on the basis of ability, not disability. This policy derives from the commitment to non-discrimination for all persons in employment, access to facilities, student programs, activities and services.
Identification
It is the responsibility of the student to identify her/himself to the Coordinator of Disability Support Services and request accommodations. Appropriate documentation is required before accommodations can be made. Self-identification prior to orientation and registration is strongly suggested. Services are provided for students with a range of disabilities. Accommodations have been provided for students with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, hearing impairments, visual impairments, psychiatric/emotional disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and health impairments.
Services include:
- Assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills
- Priority registration for class assignment
- Providing assistance with academic accommodations
- Arranging accommodations for alternative testing
- Serving as a resource for identifying technological assistance
- Providing information and serving as a referral source to School and University programs and services
