Congresswoman Lee earned a Masters Degree of Social Work from the University of California, Berkley. While in her MSW program, Congresswoman Lee’s field placement was with then Congressman Ron Dellums. Congresswoman Lee was elected in 1998 to represent California’s 9th Congressional District. The Congresswoman has been a strong advocate for safe communities, job training, affordable housing, ending homelessness, low income energy assistance, making health care affordable and universal, fair immigration policies, the establishment of a living wage, and fighting to protect women’s rights to their reproductive health. Congresswoman Lee has played a significant part in authoring or co-authoring major pieces of legislation addressing global HIV/AIDS issues, and continues demonstrating her social work values by representing the needs of underserved population in her district.
