Senator Barbara Mikulski earned a Masters Degree of Social Work from University of Maryland, School of Social Work. Senator Mikulski was elected to Congress in 1976 at the U.S. Representative for Maryland’s 3rd district. Senator Mikulski began serving as a Democratic Senator for Maryland since 1986. Senator Mikulski sits on several committees: she is senior member on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee; Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Children and Families; Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science; and senior member on the Senate Appropriations Committee which allocates federal funds to government agencies and organizations. In addition to being a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator Mikulski is also a member of the Subcommittee on the Department of Defense, member of the Subcommittee of the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; and a member of the Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging while serving as a mentor to incoming women Senators.
