Representative Donovan earned his MSW from the University of Connecticut, School of Social Work. Speaker Donovan has been a key sponsor of health care reform legislation and has worked to increase access to affordable, quality health care by opening up the states employee health care to municipalities, non- profits and small businesses.
Rep. Donovan has lead successful fights on campaign finance reform, stem cell research funding, and supplemental Medicare coverage, as well as expansions to the HUSKY program, minimum wage increases, etc. In 2009, 2010 speaker Donovan convened task forces on domestic violence, children in recession, and regionalism and municipal cooperation. He has been recognized for his leadership role by various groups and has received several awards such as the Mental Health Outstanding Advocate Award, the Early Childhood Alliance Legislator of the Year Award, the Connecticut Family Resource Center Alliance Friend of the Family Award, plus numerous other honors.
