MSW Degree Requirements

The program leading to the Master of Social Work degree covers two academic years beyond the bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 60 credits is required for the degree including:

  • Eight foundation or required courses (21 credits)
  • Four advanced concentration courses (12 credits)
  • Two 560-hour field placements (18 credits, 4 courses and two 1 credit, year long field education seminars offered in the foundation and advanced years)
  • Elective courses, including the option of clustering these into a focused area of study (9 credits)

Elective courses totaling nine credits, including the option of clustering these into a focused area of study.

Time Limits

Non-Degree progam credits counted toward degree requirements must be completed within six years of graduation. BSW credits considered for exemption must be earned within six years of matriculation. Credits considered for transfer must be completed within four years of matriculation. MSW Degree requirements must be completed within four years of matriculation.
