Walk Against Hunger: Another Year of Generous Support

The UConn School of Social Work Team has been participating in Foodshare’s Annual Walk Against Hunger for 8 years. Each year the School has met or exceeded its goal of helping to feed many of our hungry neighbors in Greater Hartford. Every $30 raised provides an entire month’s worth of food for someone in need. This year, the SSW team raised $1,470 and was able to feed 49 people!

The SSW Team showed up in great numbers again this year. There were over a dozen walkers! Alumni Connect increased their numbers and we increased our student, staff, faculty and family participation.

“We especially want to thank those veteran walkers who’ve been on our Team from the beginning! It is wonderful to see the social work mission in action and the spirit of aiding those less fortunate,” said SSW staffers and team co-captains, Eileen Boisseau and Sironda Scott.

This year the UConn SSW Walk Team received 3 recognition certificates from Foodshare: #1 Top School Team Recognition Certificate, Chase Family Walker Certificate, and the $1,000+ Team Captain Recognition certificate.

“We’re very proud of our dedicated team members and look forward to seeing them, and more members, at next year’s Walk Against Hunger. More importantly, we look forward to the day when hunger ceases in our communities”.
