Edwin Colon MSW ’03, JD ’09 Named One of the Top 50 Most Influential Latinos in CT

For the second year in a row, Edwin Colon MSW ’03, JD ’09 has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Latinos in Connecticut by Latinos United for Professional Advancement (LUPA). In October of 2013, the Connecticut Law Tribune named Edwin a “New Leader in the Law” for his work with low-income children who are victims of abuse and neglect, children with disabilities, and children who are new to our country. He was chosen from more than 300 nominations from throughout Connecticut who are age 40 and younger.

Edwin joined the Center for Children’s Advocacy (CCA) to work on the Child Juvenile Justice Project to advocate in the Hartford public schools on behalf of youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system. He also works with CCA’s teen legal clients in Fairfield County, helping to resolve legal issues that prevent youth from achieving academic success. Prior to joining the Center for Children’s Advocacy, Edwin was in private practice in Connecticut. He has worked with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Casey Family Services, providing support for individuals and families involved with the foster care system; and with the Department of Children and Families as an Investigations and Treatment Social Worker on child abuse investigations. Edwin has held faculty positions at the UConn School of Social Work and at Capital Community College.
