Dr. Miriam Valdovinos has been chosen by the Provost’s Office and the Office of Global Partnerships & Outreach to represent UConn at Universitas 21 Early Career Researchers Workshop in Santiago, Chile in October.
Dr. Valdovinos’ research has investigated issues of human migration with a specific interest in understanding how undocumented Latina/o immigrants experience interpersonal violence in the United States. Her research also incorporates transnational relationships and processes since many of the people that she interviews for her research maintain ties with family and friends in their country of origin.
“I look forward to representing UConn and the School of Social Work at this prestigious event as well as getting to network with interdisciplinary scholars who also look at issues of human migration and intergroup relations involving indigenous and non-indigenous communities. Now more than ever, we are living in a world that requires that we engage in these critical conversations- and Social Workers need to be at the table.”
