Have you been asked to write a letter for a client with an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)? Do you know how to differentiate an ESA from other animals? As a clinician, have you assessed the risk and benefit to writing letters? ESAs are recognized in federal legislation, and limited legal access rights are afforded to those with ESAs. In this webinar, the ESA role will be clarified, related laws are reviewed, and the benefits related to ESAs are discussed. Emergent practice guidelines will be discussed for clinical social workers seeking to understand the process of letter writing. This webinar is also appropriate for community practitioners for the purposes of gaining insight into access and advocacy efforts.

At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will:

  • understand the different between ESAs and other animal/pet supports
  • learn and understand best practices for access, advocacy, and client support
  • understand the implications for social workers and clients including ethical responsibilities, practitioner strategies, and client/ practitioner resources
