Breana Bietsch, MSW

Prior to being accepted to the PhD program, Breana worked in different roles with the older adult population including community outreach programs, hospice, nursing homes, homecare services and senior housing services. She earned her MSW at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and received a certificate on Aging through the program. During her time at Rutgers, she worked as a graduate assistant studying the effects of grandparents raising grandchildren as well as the experiences of transgender young adults coming out to their grandparents. Her current research interest focuses on the fiscal effects of the Connecticut state Medicaid program in concern to senior’s choices on continuum of care services. This research will also hope to explore the mental and emotional toll on older adults in Connecticut who are Medicaid recipients and how they make decisions about whether they chose to live in congregant housing or remain at home to age.
